TEXARKANA, Ark. — Twenty-six years in Scouting helps one learn a few things. Greg Perry, Caddo Area Council, Boy Scouts of America, training chairman, was passing out knowledge to new Cub Scout leaders Saturday at Camp Preston Hunt east of town. About a dozen new leaders were learning the finer points of back-to-basics camping, such as first aid, cooking, campfire management, camping equipment, ceremonies, geocaching, hiking, knife safety, knot tying and more. The two-day workshop, called BALOO (Basic Outdoor Leader Outdoor Orientation), involved an overnight tent stay, and the leaders learning these skills for the first time or getting a refresher on skills they already had.
