Military dogs have helped soldiers in war for decades, since the War Dog Program, also known as K-9 Corps, was first set up by the U.S. Army in 1942. In the years since, Siberian Huskies, Belgian Shepherds, collies, German Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, Eskimo dogs, and Alaskan Malamutes have stood guard, delivered messages and detected bombs, among other responsibilities.
