How to make dry shampoo at home?
To make a homemade DIY dry shampoo at home, you'll need a few simple ingredients and a small jar. Here's a general recipe for light, medium, and dark hair:
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder for dark hair, adjust the amount for medium hair and leave it out for light hair.
- Optional: a few drops of essential oils such as tea tree, peppermint, lavender, or your favorite scent.
Instructions:
Combine 2 tablespoons cornstarch or arrowroot powder with the appropriate amount of cocoa powder for your hair color (2 tablespoons for dark hair, 2 tablespoons of cornstarch for light hair, and for medium hair, a blend of 2 tablespoons cornstarch and 2 tablespoons cocoa powder).
Optionally, add a few drops (3 to 8, depending on the strength of fragrance desired) of essential oils like lavender, peppermint, or rosemary (e.g., 3 drops of lavender, 8 drops of peppermint, and 2 drops of rosemary).
Mix the ingredients well, either with a spoon or by blending in a blender.
Once the desired blend is achieved, pour it into a small container, such as a clean mason jar or a small tin.
To apply, use a brush (a fluffy makeup brush recommended) to gather a small amount from the jar and distribute it onto the roots or oily areas of your hair. Work it into your hair with a gentle massage using your fingertips.
Allow the dry shampoo to sit for about 2-3 minutes, then brush out your hair as usual.
Remember that the cocoa powder works by repelling water and oil, keeping it from accumulating on your hair. Store the dry shampoo in a cool, dry place to maximize its effectiveness.
