Sometimes, as a child living on Long Island, April Russell would come downstairs in the morning to find that her father had rearranged all the furniture, frequently incorporating a new piece he had bought during one of his regular visits to Europe. ‘He had incredible flair,’ she says. ‘He arranged table tops to perfection.’ April became an interior designer, having followed her father’s lead and visited Europe as a teenager. At the age of 21, she decided to make her home in London. After courses in fine art at Sotheby’s Institute of Art and interior design at the Inchbald School of Design, she gained practical experience with the antique dealer Piers von Westenholz and interior-design studio Percy Bass.
